First off, I have posted this in comp.periphs.scanners with no luck so
thought I'd give this arena a shot. I have an HP 5P scanner that is
connected to my computer with an Adaptec
3940 SCSI. It was working as advertised under W2K. I just installed
Windows XP. XP sees the scanner and it will scan with Windows software.
When I try to use the latest scanning software from HP it fails. When I go
to Start/Settings/Control Panel/HP Scanjet Scanners and double click, under
the SCSI tab it says "No host SCSI adapters found". Any ideas on how to
get this soft ware to find the proper SCSI card? HP is no help. Thanks,
Jim

Hello

Well from what you said using the scanner software all worked
ok and then you installed HP scanning software and seems that
the majoy part of your problem. Remove the additional
software you install and see what happens. Maybe that
software is not compatible with your scanner card or scanner

Try accessing the HP download site for your scanner and obtainb the Windows XP files. There are differences in most of their applications for XP vs 2K.

Make sure that if you find new software [if present on the site it may be >40Mb in size], that you download and follow these steps.

Before Using the new software [do not install]:
1.set a Restore Point and make sure it has been successfully created.
2.uninstall the Scanner and the HP software present on the PC [you'll need to unplug the scanner]
3.reboot the PC and make sure that non of the HP programmes are loaded
4.set another restore point
5.install the 'new' HP software: read and carefully follow their setup instrauctions. You should also ensure that you are not connected to the internet and have any anti-virus applications switched off.
6.Test the scanner as part of the installation process.
7. set another system restore point.

If during any of the above steps, you find any problems and cannot move to the next step: go back and set your PC to the previous restore point and reboot. Then go and retry the failing step.
