No Image when I plug my new PC into the TV

Hey guys, please bear with me, I get the feeling there is a simple solution to this problem. I just finished my build. I'm using the tv as my monitor. So I turned on the new PC, plugged in the hdmi cable to the back of the box into the motherboard's hdmi outlet, and then plugged the other end into my hmdi switcher. I switched over to it on my tv input settings and.... nothing! Black screen. Nothing at all.

What I've tried:
- I turned it off and back on again (tv, hdmi switcher and pc) = nothing
- I plugged the hdmi cable into the video cards exterior hdmi outlet, and then the other end into the tv = nothing.
- I plugged my PS3 into the exact same outlet I was using on the HDMI switcher, got an image, I switched the cords again so my PC was plugged into the exact same outlet = nothing
- I checked to make sure the pc was on, the fans on the case and the fan on the cpu are on and there is a little light (green) lit up on the mother board. No activity from the video card from what I can see? But i'm not sure what i'm looking for.
- I then thought, oh! maybe it needs to have the OS disk in so it has something to start up with, so i plugged in the external drive, which is showing it has power, and plopped in the OS. Nothing happened other than the drive turning over the disk a few times.
- I used the hdmi cable from my ps3 and plugged IT into the PC, still nothing. So it's not the hdmi cable.

Any other ideas? Is it possible that we forgot to plug the videocard in? Is there a way to tell if the video card is on?

Here is my build incase it matters:

Ok so we solved this problem.
1. We needed to plug in the two 6+2 pins that came with the power supply, into the video card.
2. You need to plug in BOTH power supply cables into the motherboard, both the 24 pin and the 4 pin. We had just the 24 pin in assuming that it was based on where you lived (24 for north america, 4 for Europe) but it turns out they both need to be in as the 4 pin seems to control the HDMI.

Once we did these two things it worked fine.
Sorry bear with me, so I need to plug the hdmi cable into the video cards hdmi outlet? Because I tried that and nothing happened =/

Edit: I'm pretty sure this matters: The fans on the video card and definitely not moving. So I assume it doesn't have any power? It's plugged into the mother board...

yes, to the video card output. did you plug in the 2 pcie 6pin power cable on the card from the psu?
is the video card fan spinning when you turn the computer on?

You probably have the motherboard's onboard video enabled instead of your R9.

Things I would check:

Make sure you connected a power cable to the GPU.
Make sure you go into the BIOS on boot and change the settings to use the installed card instead of the onboard video.
Make sure you have current drivers installed for the R9.

After that, you should be able to plug the HDMI into the graphics card's output to the TV and get a picture. If not, then you'd have to start looking at other issues.

hard to do since there is no display at all, and the cpu is fx 6300, which don't have integrated gpu.

No, the fans are not spinning when the PC is just turned on. I've opened the case up and am having a look inside.
Please bear with me, this won't be pretty:

So I see two outlets on the gpu right next to each other, they are identical. They are 6 pins, 3 stacked. I found two cords in my bag of leftovers, they fit into the outlets. The wires coming off the plug-ins are yellow, black and red and they end in a large wide outlet with three large pins in it.

Do i need to plug these in and then plug that into the power supply? Do both need to be plugged in?

viewtyjoe: But how can I do those things if I have no image? Do you mind explaining it to me a bit more? Sorry =(

The motherboard has onboard video, there are still boards out there like that. I had assumed there was a normal monitor being used on top of the TV, apologies for the misreading. In that case, I would guess the BIOS is set to auto-detect, and since something's in the PCIe slot, it's disabling the onboard, but since the power's not connected to the card, you're getting nothing.

As best I can guess given the description, you should plug those cords into the power supply and into the card. The card has two 6-pin slots, so I would recommend plugging both in to the card. Then your card should be getting power, at least. From the description so far, the motherboard's onboard video is disabled due to the card in the PCIe, but with no power, you're getting no picture.

So I plugged in the two 6 pin power cables, however I only have three ports to connect it to coming off the psu, which means the 4th is not plugged in. I started it up again but still no life in the gpu. I guess I need that fourth one plugged in? My computer friend who helped me set it all up is coming over tomorrow to take a look. Will update when I have results.
