No internet access after Vista re-load

I can ping nic card, network adapter does not appear in Device Manager list, no link light lit on cable modem when connected to computer. Any ideas?

Did you load the drivers for the network card? Get all the service packs for Vista? How can you ping the network card if there is nothing listed in device manager, how do you know what IP the computer is?
