Basically, I have a NETGEAR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router. I have 2 computers in 2 different rooms, the other one with Ubuntu, which is the one I am writing this from, has internet access. The other one which is my computer, does not. It did have internet access and I decided I should upgrade to Windows 10 before the offer ends, I did this and then I noticed I did not have Internet access. I rolledback to Windows 7 to see if this would change the state of the Internet and it did not, I have both computers plugged into the router via RJ-45 cables, into ports 1 and 4 of the router. I checked some logs after logging into the router and indeed it looks like the PC with internet access is getting the normal amount of packets while the other is getting almost nothing. I checked my IP via ipconfig and it's 169.254 blah blah blah which means I need to /renew, i did this and it does not renew. It looks like my router is not giving my PC an IP so it can't access the Internet.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated, I have tried everything in my knowledge so now I'm here.

I happened to fix the problem by going into the router, releasing its own IP, and renewing it, then restarting my own PC, now I have Internet connection, no idea how, but now I'm really scared to update to WIndows 10.. I really want to update but if my Internet goes out again I will flip some tables.
