ok so I am about to go absolutely insane. since I have moved(about a year) my internet always goes in and out constantly over large downloads. This as an avid steam user is not what I need. we upgraded our router with pretty much the top of the line model thinking out router was goin out, nope. so I upgraded my wireless card because mine was the bottom line model and didnt do a thing. What can I do to remedy this issue before it gets too frustrating.

router: netgear r6250 smart router
wireless card: asus PCE-AC68 dual-band PCI-E adapter 802.11AC Wireless-AC1900
OS: windows 7 ultimate

No clue, my dads GF is the one in charge of that and if it doesnt affect her then its not an issue so before I go and tell her whats happening and demand action I need to make sure its nothing on my end. But if thats what you suggest I do ill do it

just my desktop and my grandmas laptop which also has windows 7 the rest of the family uses ipads and their smartphones.
its usually out for anywhere from 3-10 minutes and usually when I troubleshoot my network settings to see whats wrong it will fix it right there and say it couldnt find an error making me feel like an idiot for running it.
and while I was downloading the mmo Rift it went out several times and I checked my phone and it was still connected.

Is there any possibility of doing it wired? Even for a short time?

Wireless is flaky. Many, many things can cause it to drop out. Someone turning on a microwave, or a cordless phone, interference from neighbors, etc, etc.

if the rest of the family are using smart phones, if your home internet goes down, their phones will just switch to using their mobile data network, and thus might appear unaffected.

The only way to check it, is to log into the router and see if the connection keeps dropping out by looking at the time connected.

now what I was thinking is it only really happens when im downloading huge files like 1+gb and with the more than occasional hiccup during game play, could it be an issue with the firewall not letting something through?

I would surmise that it happens all the time, but you only notice it when your downloading a big file or playing games.

Its very unlikely to be a firewall problem. That would just block all traffic of a specific type.

hey I thank you both for your help I tried a wired connection and the exact same thing happened. so what do I do I ask politely for my dads girlfriend to call cox and see if she can straighten things out. when she asks why, I tell her whats up and her response was "well then stop downloading things".... I can NOT wait to move out. anyway thanks you guys you have been a big help.
