No internet at all

For the past few months my computer has had problems staying connected to the Internet. I tried both wired and wireless and it would just randomly disconnect with either. I posted in a few forums and did everything people suggested but nothing would fix it. It was quite annoying but I could refresh a page 5-10 times and Internet would work again so I figured I'd just have to deal with it. Yesterday though it disconnected and will not work now. Both wired and wireless say they are connected to an unidentified network and no internet access. I thought it could be router problems but the firmware is up to date already. I tried using my phones Internet as a hotspot and the computer connected but said again that its unidentified and has no internet access. We have numerous phones and tablets that have no problem staying connected, as well as a laptop running Windows 7, so it's definitely the computer and not the router. My computer is a Dell desktop running Windows 7. I've also tried updating the network adapter drivers but it didn't help. Any suggestions for what I could do? I'm not very advanced with computer stuff so you may need to explain how to do things. Thanks.

That may work sometimes but it's not always effective because Microsoft doesn't have updated drivers for every single network adapter. What make model is your network adapter? Find the latest newest driver from the manufacture website.

When Internet was working I went to device manager and clicked network adapters and it installed what it said was the newest. It still disconnected after that so it didn't help.

Thanks so much! I managed to get it updated and after a bit it connected to wired Internet but it has disconnected a few times since then, and it still says it's connected to an unidentified network. I've googled that and none of the fixes other people found has helped.

I had previously tried both of those links. Once I open them they do their thing and then a message pops up saying
"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel."

It did update to a different one though, it's dated 6/19/2013

Thats the one. Looks like it is using a vpn service which maybe disconnecting and when it does your local network card is not set to get automatic settings from the router known as dhcp. does this company look familiar? https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/buy-vpn/

OK I know what you are saying but for now you could do with uninstall in that while we get to the bottom of maybe another problem.

Okay internet has stayed connected even after a few reboots since yesterday. It knows it's connected to my network now too, it's not unidentified. It did that by itself somehow. I disconnect from the vpn and and redid the ip config. Heres the results

I have not uninstalled the vpn but did change the settings to not auto start at startup or if i open the app. So it should not start unless I manually do it. I'm wondering if the problem was fixed by updating the driver even though it's not the newest...it has not stayed connected to internet for this long in months.

The updated driver should have fixed it. Im sure you turned off the pc after you updated the driver and left it alone until today you turned it back on and it works like it should. 😉

Yes pretty much. I just now tried to update it further using the update driver in device manager. It said it found one and started downloading and then said "this device cannot start. error code 10" Immediately after that it put the driver back to the original 2009 driver and my network was unidentified again with no internet access. So I told it to roll back and it went right to the 2013 driver and my network was identified again. So I'll just leave it with the driver it has. Thank you so much for the help. I was about to take a hammer to it :)
