I've seen many messages about this but no solution seems to work.

i just did a fresh install of windows 7, but can't get on the internet.

my device manager says i am missing:

base system device (PCI bus 13, device 0, function 1)
network controller (PCI Bus 3, device 0, function 0)
unknown device (on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller)

i have another computer to download drivers from, whig i have been doing, but to no avail. Anybody know where i can download these devices?

the computer that can't get connected to my router is:

lenovo t410
windows 7 home premium
intel core i5

Solution
Connect the PC to the router via Cable, and Right Click -> Disable the WiFi network connection.
Give me a SS of that.

Also, Give me a SS of the Device Manager, with the Network Devices expanded.

If you can talk via Skype or Team Speak, hit me with a private message, as this is going too slow.

Well, usually the most important driver is the network controller one, and once install, you will be able to access the internet and get the rest.
Do you have a NIC card, or just the integrated network port?
If it`s the integrated one, what is your motherboard name, and what version of Win7 are you running (64vs32)?

These normally come with your motherboard disk, you should be able to find some on your motherboards support section/website. If you go into properties on the device manager and find the numbers under the details tab, you can drop down and receive information about what your missing in the form of: PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_1681&SUBSYS_026E1028&REV_10

you can then search for this or break it down into segments and search on-line.

What Mobo do you have and make sure the BIOS is up to date. Also sounds small but a restart is normally required for things to take effect.

RUN CPU-Z to find out what mobo you have

Let me know how you get along

hey, sorry, i'm not smart enough to understand these instructions:

i tried to run cpu-z, but nothing came up

i also clicked on properties for my network controller in the device manager. clicking on the details tab doesn't give me any numbers...am i doing something wrong?

i just downloaded prowinx64 from the intel download center, to see if that would provide me with the driver from the network controller. installing it now...

well, running prowinx64 seems to have gotten me a little closer. my computer was able to identify my router! but it is not able to connect. trouble shooting right now, reseting the network adapter, etc. restarting the computer. nothing seems to be working, but i'll keep trying different solutions, and will write back if the problem is resolved or not...basically, after i type in my password, it quickly relies that i can't connect to my router.

Well, check in Device Manager that status of your network controller.
If you see any exclamation mark next to it, most likely the driver is not installed, and you`ll not be able to connect.

If there is no special mark next to it, it should be fine from a driver POV, and it`s only a configuration issue.

the network controller seems to be working, as there's no more exclamation mark next to it. So I guess its a configuration problem? Any possible help on how to configure it properly? i've tried all the amateur solutions (turning it off, rebooting computer) nothing works.

one thing that is weird is that many connections show up as available, but none are marked as needing a password. when i click on my router, it does ask for the network security key, but after i type it in it says that windows was unable to connect to my router...

Are you trying to connect over Wi-Fi?
If yes, do you have a cable that will allow you to connect directly to it?

If you manage this, or have a different PC connected to the Router, go in the router`s config page, and change the password.
Afterwards, try connecting again.

FYI - the address for the router is usually 192.168.1.1 for their internal IP address. D-Link and Netgear routers typically use 192.168.0.1. Some US Robotics routers use 192.168.123.254, and some Belkin and SMC routers use 192.168.2.1.
You just type this into a browser, and you`ll get to a login page. Usually both ID and pass are "Admin".

Try this and get back to us.

before i try to configure the router, here some more info:

when i right click the internet icon in the system tray, and click on “open network and sharing center”, it opens a window, with the words “view your basic network information and set up connections” on the top.

visually, there are three sections mapped out: “this computer” on the left, unidentified network (park bench) in the middle, and “Internet” with a black and white (unhighlighted) globe icon on the right. Between "this computer" and "unidentified network" is a yellow sign and exclamation point, and between "unidentified network” and “internet" is an x.

below that it said, “local Area Connection” doesn’t have a valid IP configuration.

After a minute or two, it changed. The yellow sign between “this computer” and “unidentified network” went away, but the x between “unidentified network” remained. however, now the internet icon in the system try has a yellow sign with an exclamation point over it. It then remained that way...

Should i try to fix the router, or is there something i still need to fix on the computer itself?

thanks!!!!!

unfortunately, i can't get on line with my ethernet cable either. after troubleshooting, Windows Network Diagnostics said the problem is:

'Local Area Connection' doesn't have a valid IP configuration

oh, that's brilliant...

but just a couple questions:

1) how do i check for network configurations on my PC?
2) the other computer is a macbook pro.I'm assuming I look on network, where my wifi address, IPv4 address, subnet mask, router, and MAC address are listed.

For a PC: Press the windows key on your keyboard, type 'cmd' press enter. Command window will open. type 'ipconfig' press enter
or go into your network and sharing centre and adapter settings properties

For Mac: You already know how to do that as written above, or you can go Launchpad, then terminal then enter 'ifconfig -a'

thanks for the tips

but i inputed the IP and DNS configurations form my mac onto my PC. didn't do anything.

my router still shows up, but when i try to connect, it says "windows was unable to connect to ____ (my router's name)." Didn't even ask for my password.

sorry to drag this on...but bloody hell nothing seems to work!

Ok, in this case, turn off your router for about 30 seconds - 1 minute.
Connect again to the router, also to the address for the router settings.

Still not connected - reset the router to default settings. There should be a small reset button on the back of your router. Still doesn`t work - unplug the power to the router for a minute, and plug it back in.

Still nothing - give us all the information that you get when you run "ipconfig /all" in CMD window.
Also try to give us screen shots of the router settings, if you manage to access it.

Try this, and get back to us.

ok i will - 2 questions first though:

1) should i take this computer to a cafe or another wifi place, to see if m computer can connect to the internet at all?

2) in case i need to, how do i get to my router settings? i don't think i can do it from my PC, but can do it from my mac.

If you can test in a different network (WiFi) it would be great, because then you can find out if the problem is from your PC, or the router.
For the router config, use what I have you earlier:
"Are you trying to connect over Wi-Fi?
If yes, do you have a cable that will allow you to connect directly to it?

If you manage this, or have a different PC connected to the Router, go in the router`s config page, and change the password.
Afterwards, try connecting again.

thanks for all your help:

1) tested computer on another wifi - did not work
2) went on router admin page. (192.168.0.1). "admin" did not work for log in and password. It might be because I live in China...?
3) here is the screenshot when i go on my PC, and in command line type "ipconfig"

ipconfig screenshot.PNG

ok, don't think that worked...don't know how to add screen shot into this response bx.

basically, for all 4 areas (wireless pan adapter, ethernet adapter, and the 2 tunnel adapters), it says media disconnected, and there is nothing after "connection specific DNS suffix"...

Sorry, hope that helps?
