I have been having trouble getting online for the past 5 months it starts to work after I reset the router and modem over and over again. I am using three computers (A desktop, a laptop, and a netbook). They all attach to the router but say they have no internet connection. I have gotten 6 new modems from Time Warner, purchased a new router, and changed out the cat5 cables. I just had Time Warner send a guy out to check the system and he says the system their portion of the system is working. Any ideas what the problem could be?

You should break this down.

connect a system to the modem with a cable and see if it works.

If it does, connect the router(Modem to WAN port) and reset it(login and make sure all your settings are right and that it has pulled an IP address from the cable modem). Connect a system to the router(LAN port) with a cable and see what you get.

You have to check each section of your setup to get to the bottom of this.

Thanks for the reply. This is what I've tried (several times) each time it came out with the same results:

I would disconnect everything and then connect any 2 parts of the system.
The computers can see the router, both wirelessly and through LAN.
The computers could see the modem and most of the time they had internet connectivity.
I would then attach the modem through the router and sometimes get internet sometimes not.

I'm guessing this means its a problem with the router then, but I don't know what to check.

Normally these things are very stable once running.

Can you ensure the router has the latest firmware in case it had a bug that needed to be fixed after shipping(I also remember the days when things had been fully tested before shipping).

Do you get any errors when you loose internet? Maybe leave a system on the modem alone for a while to make sure it stays working. We have to rule out your cable provider first since a intermittent problem can be overlooked sometimes.
