I have a cable modem (Hitron CGN2-ROG) connected to a switch which lights up so I assume it recognizes the modem, from the switch I have various ports around the house when I connect a port with my laptop the switch port lights on but I get no connection to the internet.

I have double check all my ports and the cabling is fine, when i connect my laptop directly to my cable modem I receive a connection to the web, but through my ethernet ports in the house i get no connection.

Also when I had DSL internet this wasn't an issue I'm think its got something to due with the cable modem but I am not too sure.

with the cable modem having wifi and 4 ports ethernet on it. it has dhcp on. on your switch turn off dhcp. set the switch to a fixed ip (192.168.10) whe nyou do this the switch should be abnle to get data packets now from the cable modem ethernet port.

My switch didn't come with any software so I'm not too sure how to turn off dhcp, It is a D-Link DES 108 switch

It Is connected like that basically but since my switch is in the basement where all my cables are its connected through those cables which lead throughout the house and the modem is connected through the jack on the wall, the switch recognizes the modem because the link light on the switch is on. I tried configuring the modem by disabling dhcp and then enabling and the same issue is present

So try to connect the cable modem directly to the switch without using the jack on the wall and connect a pc from the switch and try to connect to the net? If thats what you mean then I will try that and get back to you

The internet works fine when i connect striaght from modem>switch>pc without using the jacks, now i thinking theres something wrong with the jacks

Edit: I put the switch back downstairs and connected it, still no internet saying "unidentified network no internet access" when its connected to the switch

Ok I believe the problem is the switch, The cable that connects from the modem to the jack on the wall and through the wall to the switch is working fine, because i jus connected that cable coming from the modem to my laptop and i received internet, but when i put it back in the switch and connected laptop to the switch i get the unidentified network.

So i am 100% that the cable is fine and the switch is the issue here
