Hello,

I recently installed Windows 10 Pro.

It works fine so far. The only things that annoys me are that there's no sound that play for what I've mentioned above in the title when performing those actions, and installing the GPU drivers again (done), I was able to install the drivers but it took so long because there is something wrong with the installer (both GeForce Experience and directly from website).

As for my current problem. I edit RegEdit to enable those sounds by changing the value of ExcludeFromCPL from 1 to 0, and the sounds still don't work. I also have Fast Startup disabled.

Edit: What I want is to be able to customize my sounds like I did for Windows 7.

How can I fix this? Is there a program that enables them to work?

Solution
Not sure what else to suggest then.

Links such as the following are for manipulating Program sounds:

You are manipulating native System sounds - and probably not what Microsoft wishes to have happen.

Really cannot go any further with ideas or suggestions that involve Registry editing or other potentially risky actions.

Hopefully someone else will be able to offer a viable solution or fix.

Stay away from the Registry....

Right-click the small speaker icon likely in the lower right screen corner.

From the drop down menu select "Sounds".

Take a look at the Sound Scheme being used. Should be Windows Default.

Then take a closer look at the selected Program Event sounds.

I know how to get to Sounds as I used it to customized my sounds so it wouldn't be Windows Default.

I used the Registry to include the sounds, mentioned in the the title, in "Sounds" as they were excluded from the list (Program Event sounds).

Now the problem is gettings the sounds to actually work when performing the action.

It works when pressing the Test button in "Sounds" but when trying to perform those actions, it does not work.

So you tried something like this:

http://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-hack-the-windows-10-registry-to-customize-hidden-system-sounds/

Double check the "How to" that you used.

Two things: 1) You may have missed something or went astray (easy to do) within the Registry or, 2) The "How to" may have been incorrect, outdated, or did not encompass something done/changed by Microsoft.

Noted a few other related links - use wording such as "how to customize Windows 10 sounds" and edit the wording as applicable to your requirements.

Yes, I changed the value of the DWORD labeled ExcludeFromCPL to 0 for the following:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels\SystemExit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels\WindowsLogoff
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels\WindowsLogon
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels\WindowsUnlock

I've tried to search for for a solution before this but couldn't find anything else other than this.

Thanks.

Where are your Windows*.wav files located?

E.g., in File Explorer do a search for "Windows*.wav" (without quotes of course).

Be sure to include hidden folders.

What folders and pathnames contain the .wav files? Especially the .wav files for the desired sounds.

Compare the locations of sounds that work to the locations of sounds that do not work.

The Media folder inside the Windows folder which is in the C drive.

All my custom wav files work. It's just when I perform the actions in the title, it doesn't work.

Do not believe that the problem is software.

I have C:\Windows\Media which contains 13 folders each with very much the same list of named .wav files but each identically named .wav plays a different sound. The folders are named with words such as "Afternoon", "Delta", "Garden", "Raga", and "Sonata". (Not listing all the folders.)

From a different viewpoint, when I search my system for "Windows Logoff Sound.wav" that .wav file is found 15 times in a variety of folders and sizes. Plus the default player seems to be Groove Music. [Note: some of those .wav files were barely audible when played.]

There are two key things:

1) That Windows knows what sound scheme to use.

2) That the necessary .wav files (i.e., your custom sounds) are available in the location specified by that sound scheme.

For example:

And here is another explanatory link that is much more current:

I've already done what those examples have said before.

My Login, Logoff, Lock, and Shutdown have sounds but they're not playing when performing those events.
I have also contacted Microsoft twice. Their solutions only helped a bit (by having the sound options appear via upgrade) but non of the sounds work still.
