I wanted to hook my monitor up to the integrated graphics on my CPU rather than the graphics card I have. However, when the VGA is plugged into the I/O shield on the motherboard, the monitor claims to have no input.

Solution
Integrated card on most motherboards is disabled by default as long as GPU is installed. You either have to remove GPU or change settings in BIOS to allow you to use motherboard video port with GPU, assuming your system does have iGPU at all (for example it is not 1st gen Ryzen).
