Question No monitor output and GPU fan runs at max RPM on previously working PC ?

Sep 19, 2021
I recently returned to my computer after turning on the clothes dryer in another room to find both monitors off and the GPU fan running loudly. Restarting the computer causes it to immediately return to this state.

The keyboard LEDs for locks still respond properly, but I cannot test any other input. The motherboard debug LEDs turn on in sequence at first, but none remain lit to indicate an error. The monitors turn on, but receive no input and immediately go into power-save mode.

I've removed and replaced the CMOS battery, but it had no effect.

My setup is as follows:
  • MSI Z270 GAMING PLUS ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
  • EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8 GB FTW2 GAMING iCX Video Card
  • Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor
  • EVGA G1 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
  • Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite 240 66.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
  • G.Skill Trident Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory
  • Seagate Barracuda 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
