DVD's no longer play on my ASUS laptop. I load the DVD into the disc port and it begins to load. Once it loads Windows Media Player flashes on the screen for a fraction of a second and then disappears before the movie has loaded. Any quick simple fixes for this? I am not an expert with computrs. Need something simple!

Solution
Check for a well rooted malware infection and rootkits:

If the system comes up clean then make a new user account and see if Windows Media Player has the same problem under 'Test User 2' (for example).

Chances are that it's either (1) malware/rootkit infection, or (2) a corrupted local user profile...

When this solution works mark it as the solution so that others with the same problem can find it.
- If it does not work then the problem is most likely a hardware issue or incompatibility.

Can you read the files off the disc, or just not play them? what do you use for a media player? Get VLC and try again, if that does not work how old is the player?
