No more Macrium Reflect free.
Coming soon you can pay $25.00 for the first year. Then $39.xx a year after that. I only used it for my backup machine. I have had Acronis and ToDo for years with forever licenses. Guess I need to buy another license. If you go yearly it is $10.00 cheaper than Macrium Reflect per year.

Or, $80 onetime, lifetime payment.

And yes, I think Macrium is shooting themselves in the foot with this.

Seems a bit ambitious to me. They do what they do well, but not *that* much better than a whole lot of free competitors. $80 is expensive enough to cause a lot of people to look at some of those, I think; they just don't have the leverage over users that, say, Adobe has with Creative Cloud.

I have the paid version on my main system, free on all the others.

If I were coming into it now, I'd probably look at a different option.

But....
If you liken it to other software, a lifetime license is only a little more than a game which you're done with in a month or two.

No more Macrium for me thanks. I already have single machines licenses for Acronis and ToDo. I bought the licenses about 8 years ago. My post was just for users of the free version of Macrium who may need to pay up or find new backup software.

Why not just stay on the free version is there something you need in the newer version?

People and systems that currently have a Free license, from before they changed, will continue to have that Free.
Like most of my systems.
It does not go away.

New installs fall under this subscription or onetime payment plan.

Maricum posted the free version will be disabled. No updates or anything. Time to move on.
AFAIK, Systems that had the Free version, from before this change, will not get disabled.
Unless, of course, you have some other documentation that states previous Free lifetime licenses go away.

NEW installs, you get a 30 day trial.

Funny, I don't remember getting a license for my free version. Of course I am an old fart who may just not remember.
Bottom line is I will just purchase another license from Acronis for my backup 4790k, GTX1080ti and call it a day. The stuff works!

Take a look at aomei backupper. I’ve used it a few times. Not perfect but could be worse and still has a free option.

If you are just doing a simple file backup check out Covina reflector. Doesn’t do images etc but decent option if you are wanting to back up files into another folder/drive or even do an incremental backup.

"...supports...up to and including Windows 10 & 11 version 22H2. There will be no new features or support for later Windows operating system updates."

So the moment Microsoft push out an update that breaks Reflect Free, that's it. Impossible to say when that will be of course, but it has that feeling of inevitability about it.

I'd consider the one-time purchase, but "Access to minor updates & fixes for this version only" doesn't make it sound much better than the above. EaseUS for example offer the same conditions for a one-off payment as the subscription version.

Basically it looks like I'll research buying some non-subscription disk-image software, and it's unlikely to be Macrium now.

You can't view files, very a backup and other things I find unattractive. I like being able to cherry pick files to restore. My two lifetime licenses for ToDo and Acronis makes much more sense. At least for me.
With Macrium, you can absolutely view and retrieve individual files.
Mount an Image as a drive letter, it is seen in File Explorer as any other storage device.

But if you already have lifetime licenses for the other two, then use those.

You can't make incremental backups.
Like I said at the beginning of this thread. I have 2 licenses for 2 backup programs. They software has functions not available on Maricum free. End of story.

Yes, you can do Incrementals. I do every night.

The formerly Free version only did Full and Differential.
Paid adds Incremental.
