No more USB-on board ports??? Help for Corsair H100i Link...

No more on-board USB headers? I am having trouble installing my Corsair H100i liquid cooler on a Asus Maximus VI Hero motherboard inside a Cooler Master HAF X case. I already plugged in the I/O panel onto the board and now I can't find anymore usb plugs to use for Corsair H100i 'Corsair Link' which I really need in order to avoid any buggy problems. When I bought the Asus Maximus VI Hero, the specs said it had 4 USB headers on the board including 2 more USB 3.0 headers.....HELP ME PLEASE!

There are 2 USB 2.0 connectors at the edge of the board next to the last PCIe slot. The USB 3.0 connector is next to the 24 pin power connector. Each USB connector supports 2 USB ports for a total of 4 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 ports.

The specs state 1x usb 3.0 and 2x usb 2.0. Usb 3 header is the one below your 24pin connection. The 2 usb 2 are on bottom below the pcie tab. They are right next to each other and labeled. Your case should be using the usb 3 and 1 of the usb 2, leaving one for the h100i.

But I connected the firewire (looks the same as usb on-board port) onto the second one....I want to be able to use the firewire port for some devices. Can I plug into the ROG port or will that damage the motherboard?

How is that possible? So each USB connectors supports 2 USB ports for a total of 4 USB's? I can't figure that out. I got both taken? Can you give me an example? Like a picture?

So you have some type of USB to Firewire adapter? You cannot directly connect a Firewire cable to a USB port.

I don't have any adapters. In the instructions for the motherboard, you just install into the usb port just as you would do for any usb on-board port. The firewire connector looks the same as a usb connector.

Each header supports 2 ports. Your case has 4 front ports, 2 usb 3.0 ports, there's the one 3.0 header, and 2 usb 2.0 ports, there's the one usb 2.0 header. I don't think you need 4 front usb, just take out that usb 2.0 header.

Firewire header should not work on a usb header, they are wired differently.

I think you may have misread something here. From page 1-41 of your motherboard manual:

Never connect a 1394 cable to the USB connectors. Doing so will damage the motherboard!

With your other 2.0 header being used for firewire, you are out of headers. I don't think you need 4 front usb, just take out that usb 2.0 header.

That sucks...well there's another situation, I also got a internal card reader from Rosewill (RDCR-11004 5.25"), how would I connect that as well? I have a usb 3.0 header connector that I can use to connect it to the back of the motherboard and use 2 USB 3.0 ports....

Oh your case does not have a usb 3.0 header, it uses usb 3.0 extension cables. You still don't have enough headers for everything.

Here's what I would do; only mentioning usb. Case usb 3.0 to rear mobo ports. Card reader uses a 3.0 and 2.0 header. H100i plugged into the other 2.0 port. This makes the case usb 2.0 not usable. You can't use firewire, you have no connection for it. You can get an add on card to add internal pins and/or rear firewire ports.

That's sounds like a good plan. The firewire is not a big deal as I don't have any devices that uses it but it just that I sometimes get cameras to borrow from my school that have firewire but I don't care. Oh well on the usb 2.0 from the case, I will still have plenty from the card reader and still use the usb 3.0 anyway from the case.

I believe that you are correct - new to building from scratch, but we used this motherboard and this CPU cooler and can't find a port, so I'm leaving the SD card disconnected for now.
