I have had to buy a USB dongle to get online since Windows 10 updated itself. How do I install my network adaptor?

Solution
What make and model USB dongle did you buy?

There should have been some installation instructions: i.e., a "Quick Start" sheet or perhaps even a User Guide/Manual.

If you do not have installation documents go to the manufacturer's website. There you will need to do two things:

1) Download the current drivers for the USB dongle.

2) Find and printout the installation procedure.

Here is a link to provide you with some general information about network adapters:

Either way, whatever adapter you are using should be the only enabled adapter and correspondingly configured to your network's router.

So if you are using the tablet's adapter that is the adapter you need to ensure has the correct drivers via the manufacturer's website.

If possible run and post the results of "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) via the command prompt.

The results will provide helpful information about how your tablet is currently configured and what may need to be down to get things working.

What specific make and model adapter did you purchase?

As I understand your "ipconfig /all" results you have installed a "Ethernet adapter Bluetooth Network Connection" on a HOST NAME "DESKTOP-DD9...

Are you trying to do make some connection such as the following?

Desktop [USB Port] <-- Bluetooth dongle [Ethernet port] ----- Ethernet cable -----> Router (or maybe the tablet)?

Have the sense that I am not understanding the bigger picture - where for example is the tablet?

I have a Cube i7 Stylus Tablet and after the auto update from Windows 10 I have no Realtek network adaptor showing in device manager. The device information online states that it is the realtek rtl8723bu but I have tried everything found in forums, on the Windows site and on the realtek site but no joy. I have had to buy a USB dongle to get online but that is not ideal for a tablet. I'm thinking of doing a fresh install of Windows 10 but the feedback on forums suggest that I will have the same problem. The windows 10 update prevents returning to an earlier build.

And the tablet is named "DESKTOP-DD9P8V"?

What is the make and model of the USB dongle please.

I am asking the questions because I recently dealt with a USB "flash drive" problem that turned out to be a mix-up between the data holding flash drive and a USB wireless network adapter.

I.e., the wireless adapter was thought to be a flash drive. (Was troubleshooting via telephone and could not physically see the devices involved. Finally resolved when the end-user finally mentioned an "unable to connect" error message that had been popping up.....

Do the following links match the product (dongle that you purchased)?

http://www.realtek.com/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=21&PFid=59&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=373

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/wireless-realtek-rtl8723bu-2-in-1_60671900230.html

Second link is a chip and not a dongle but shows up in my "rtl8723bu" searches.

Not sure about " I have had to buy a USB dongle to get online but that is not ideal for a tablet." What has led you to that conclusion?

Starting to believe that maybe you have received wrong product.

It is not the dongle that I have problems with but the on board Realtek network adaptor (rtl8723bu) which does not show in device manager after the Windows update. I too have searched online too and tried to install all the software on there but nothing works. The TLink dongle works fine but as it is USB it means I have to have the keyboard connected to use it and when I disconnect the Tablet I have no WiFi.

So the tablet has built in wireless adapter (Wifi Connectivity 802.11 b/g/n) that is apparently not working. Ensure that your router can support wireless b/g/n. Would expect so but you do need to take a look at the router and confirm the existing configuration settings.

Does the following link match your tablet?

https://www.banggood.com/Cube-I7-Stylus-intel-Core-M-2_0G-10_6-Inch-Windows-8_1-Tablet-p-981768.html

You cannot use the built-in micro USB 3.0 port for connectivity (wired or wireless) because you are plugging in a keyboard.

Are you not able to connect the keyboard via Bluetooth thus freeing up the USB port for the wireless TLink adapter/dongle?

Another option would be to use a USB 3.0 hub. E.g. something similar to the following product link:

https://www.amazon.com/UNITEK-Portable-MacBook-Chrombook-Surface/dp/B01MSJBXU1

However with a micro USB 3.0 plug and ports matching the fit of the USB devices being connected.

The functional idea being that you will be able to connect multiple USB devices (e.g., keyboard and wireless adapter) to the tablet.

Still do not understand why the tablet is named "DESKTOP-..." etc.

Name does not matter per se but still strikes me as odd and that something is seriously amiss.

Hi,

I've been away for a couple of days but would like to thank you for taking the time to try to resolve my problem.

The above Tablet is the correct one and I do not have a problem with the dongle (TP-LINK TL-WN823N Mini N300 USB Wireless Adaptor) I purchased or connecting the keyboard. The problem is that after a Windows 10 update I lost the on board Network adaptor (Realtek TL8723BU) which was working fine before the update. So I need software which will install the internal WiFi or original installation files for a fresh install of Windows.

I have tried all the solutions in forums and on the Realtek sites but have not fixed the problem. From what I have seen on the forums a fresh install of Windows 10 does not cure it.

You physically lost the on board network adapter - Realtek TL8723BU

Combination chip for wireless and Bluetooth.

Something like the product shown in the following link:

https://www.pine64.org/?product=wifi-802-11bgn-bluetooth-4-0-module

Note: I did some googling using Realtek TL8723BU in hopes of finding other products that used the same chip. Several Chinese sites appeared but they presented other components or the site was functionally unusable. (From my view anyway. A couple of the sites were blocked by my AV software.)

To restore the functionality you need the correct physical device and the matching Windows 10 compatible drivers via the manufacturer or Microsoft.

Identifying and finding the applicable hardware and software is what is eluding me.

Yes me too, it should be RTL8723BU I missed the R when copying above but I've tried all on the Reatek site. I think I may need to find the original files (Win 8.1) to install on this Tablet.
