No Network Connectivity after Windows 7 installation

Hello all. I am having a hell of an ordeal, and searching through several similar problems obtained via google search turned up no helpful results.

My issue is the following:

I recently purchased a laptop (ASUS 1225B Ultrabook) from a family member second-hand. Everything was in proper working order but I wanted to wipe Windows and start clean. Initially I installed Win8.1 but quickly realised I couldn't use my same key from my desktop, so I installed Windows 7 again (via a clone-drive, because this computer has no CD drive) with the key printed on this computer.

When I booted it up after installing Windows 7, I now have:
- a red X over the Network Connections section of the taskbar.
- a troubleshooter that tells me "windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to reinstall the driver."
- NO NETWORK ADAPTER showing up in device manager (but there is a yellow ! icon over the Ethernet controller, Network controller, and USB controller)
- Nothing displayed on the "network connections" page. Literally nothing. Just a blank screen.
- A red X between my computer and the Internet icon on the "Network and Sharing Center" screen, and "you are not currently connected to any networks" under my active networks.
- A notice "windows did not detect any networking hardware" when I try to connect to the internet.
- "Wireless is not currently enabled" under Manage Wireless Networks.

There IS a blue light on the front of the computer where I assume the WIFI indicator is (it looks like a little radio tower with beams coming out of it). There is another button above escape with the same icon, which I assume is a WIFI toggle switch, but pressing it doesn't do anything to change that blue light (I think there are also problems with some of the Fn+ features on here, but that's a priority for after I can get online).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't think it's a hardware issue, because the day before when I was running 8.1, I was on the internet without any trouble. This only happened after I reinstalled Win7. I am also trying to connect to a home wireless network that has two other Windows computers, and a few other devices that are still connecting without issue. On this computer, not only can I not see my own network, I can't see any neighbouring networks either (I live in an apartment building and can usually see 5-10 other visible networks).

Thanks!

You have lost your LAN and WiFi drivers. Windows does not consistently install them.

You can get them directly from Asus to get yourself connected.

In the interim, you can also try a USB wifi adapter which will use its own software and should bypass these issues.

Hmm...sorry this took so long. I lost my flashdrive and it took me a week to get time to buy another.

So I got the drivers transferred over to the ASUS, but when I try to install I get to the end of the installation and get the following message:

Qualcomm Atheros 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless Adapter
The device may not be present or could have been ejected/unplugged from the system. Insert or reinsert now.

Does this indicate a hardware problem? That wouldn't make much sense, as I've made no hardware changes to the machine.

Huh. That's a thing that happens? It coincided directly with the install of Windows 7. What do you recommend? Is this an easy fix (i.e., replacement) if I open the back of the laptop?

Ugh. Reseated the internal wireless card just to be sure; that didn't do anything. Plugged in a USB adapter and it didn't fix it. Didn't even register that I'd plugged it in. (It's not a problem with the USB plug, because it recognizes when I plug in a wireless mouse or flash drive).

Any ideas?

Ah, I plugged it in different port and it worked. Turned out the USB drivers also needed updating, so only 1/3 ports worked (they all work now).

Thanks for your help! I didn't think it would be that obvious a solution.

Now, any idea why my Fn+ hotkeys and two-finger scroll on the trackpad doesn't work?
