Question No "Options" option in Recovery Mode

I am a new mac user trying to boot into recovery mode and I have been instructed to hold down the Options button to do so, then click on the options gear icon. Unfortunately, there is no gear icon, I am only greeted with a drive icon labeled "Untitled". Does anybody know how to get the Options icon to show up?
