Hello people,

I need help about my Overclocking method and its efficiency.

I'm testing it efficiency playing (on max settings with FXAA) Crysis 3 on "Welcome to the Jungle" mission (the one with the huge field and bombing towers) and With Tomb Raider, on the "Airplane crash" map (the largest and most loaded one), and i'm getting 20~25 FPS which is ANNOYING.

My system specs. and temps.:

Motherboard: M5A78-MLX3 S.AM3+ (58°C Max)
CPU: FX-6100 OC'd at 4.0Ghz (60°C Max)
GPU: Sapphire HD 7950 Vapor-X OC'd at 1050/1500 Mhz (68°C Max)
RAM: 2x 8Gb Kingston 1333 DDR3
HDD: Regular Toshiba 5400 1Tb
PSU: 650W (Don't know if real or not)
OS: Windows 7 (x64)

GPU Driver: 13.4 Suite (Should i install 13.6 Beta?)

Background applications: Catalyst (CCC), HWMonitor and Fraps.

Even if i pull the CPU OC to 4.2Ghz, and the NB to 2400Mhz i see absolutely no difference than if it is on 3.6Ghz core and 1.8Ghz NB.

I suppose is not a problem with the GPU, since it is a very powerful one.

What am i missing?

PLEASE HELP!

Hi, generally overclocking your cpu makes no difference to fps. For reference i ran an AMD Phenom dual core cpu @3.2, then unlocked the two latent cores to make it a phenom quad core and overclocked to 3.8Ghz.
As a general guide windows index went from 6.2 to 7.4. I then ran benchmarks on several games at settings from low to ultra and the highest increase in framte rate was 0.8, funnily enough on tomb raider when it was on ultra settings.

So it's definitely a CPU bottleneck then.

Which CPU do you suggest? FX 8350 Black Ed.?

Edit: I've seen an 125w CPU like the FX-8350 is not compatible with my motherboard. Is there any 95W CPU that could replace it?

upgrading to a fx 6300 would be the best upgrade if you cant change your mobo, or get an 8350. Honestly i want to upgrade to an i5, but i dont have the money for a new mobo lol.

The architecture in 100 series fx chips arent good. however upgrading to the fx 6300 probably wont be too much of an improvement (it will be noticeable however)
