Hi there.

I have a problem, in August 2012 I bought a Sapphire Radeon HD7850 Dual-X (2gb), and it has been just fine. Three weeks ago I decided to upgrade the other components of my computer.
I bought:

Intel I5 4670K
Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z87
Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 8Gb x2

When I got home and connected all and booted up there where no picture at all.
First thing I could think of was that I needed to make some bios settings, so I took out my graphics card, and booted with Intel graphics.

I do get picture when the bios settings is on Gen 2.0, and I can use windows and play games (with decent FPS). Last weekend I drove back to the store where I bought the last upgrades.
First of we tried to put in a different card to see if there was any problem with the PCIeX16 port.
Tried a Nvidia GTX650, and it worked in Gen 3.0.
Allso tried a Radeon R9 270, and that one worked as well in Gen 3.0.

Then we tried the following motherboards with my graphics card:
Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z97
Gigabyte GA-Z97N-Gaming 5
Asus Z97-A

My graphics card did not work in Gen 3.0 in either of those motherboards.

Then we tried to put the card in a Gigabyte Z77, and to both me and the tecs at the store´s big supprise, it did work in Gen 3.0.

I have updated my bios to the latest F3 version.
I tried to find some type of firmware to the Sapphire card, but no luck. (I don't even know if there is firmwares for these cards)

I have been in contact with both Gigabyte and Sapphire. But they just say that I should contact the other for service. I´ve also been in contact with the store that sold me the graphics card, and they don't think this will go as a RMA. because the fact that it did work on a Z77 motherboard.

Is there any "known" problem with 1150 Haswell and HD7850?
Is there anything that I can do to make this work?

I have not found anything on Google that has any info on this.
I have found that the first Z77 chipsets had minor problems with Radeon, but was corrected with a bios update. I have less than two months left on my 2-year warranty on my graphics card, so please help me figure this out before.

One thing - the Radeon R9 270 is a rebranded HD 7850. I would like you to try another 7850. I personally have a 4770k happily running with 2 R9 270x's, so no Haswell issue there. I do not recall the HD 7850 being compatible with PCI-E 3.0. I think it is only a PCI-E 2 card. Run some benchmarks on Gen 2 and please report back with the results (3DMark11, FireStrike, etc.). I wish you great luck in this.

ALSO: Make sure integrated graphics are disabled. Check your VAXG voltage is 0.000 - 0.012 V.

I think that one of my co-workers has a Sapphire HD7850, I will try to borrow his and try it.

Here is a link to Sapphire´s details on the one that I have:
http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1160&pid=1654&psn=&lid=1&leg=0#

They claim it to be PCI Express 3.0, and the box says the same. (and it did work in 3.0 on a Z77 motherboard)

I will download 3DMark11 and see what score I get.

I did turn the Intel of, or it "eats" some of my RAM. ^^
I´ll check the VAXG in a few moments. I really want this to work.

*EDIT*

Here are my 3DMark11 results:

Looks just fine to me... Make sure to disable ULPS with MSI Afterburner and try overclocking a little bit. The graphics score looks just fine to me and there doesn't really seem to be anything to worry about. PCI-E 2.0 won't bottleneck you with that card. The stutters may be caused by ULPS (AMD Ultra Low Power State). Also, overclock your RAM a little bit, maybe to 1866 or 2133. It should hold up with that processor and board. In my opinion, though, you should upgrade to Z97. Z97 has many more features and works very well. It has many improvements and should be the best option for you. As always, best of luck!

Edit: One more thing, what CPU cooler do you have?

I´m using a Corsair H60 Hydro Series. The CPU is well cooled.. ^^

Ooh... H60 on a Haswell CPU is pushing it a little bit... Run Prime95 and tell me your temps.
