No picture when I try to record

I have a Magnavox zv427mg9 A recorder connected to a Samsung series 56 led TV with an HDMI cord. When I try to record from vhs to DVD I don't have a picture on the TV and it doesn't record. It plays all DVDs and vhs tapes perfectly???

If you're trying to record commercial VHS, you cant - DVD recorders specifically do not allow for that.

Nothing commercial, just tapes of family.

Quick browse thru the manual: In "DVD Recording", page 29, it says "Press [SOURCE] to select the appropriate external input position..." It does not say anywhere how to record VHS onto DVD, so probably your unit just can't do that.

I recorded a dozen vhs to DVD two or three yrs ago. Bought this TV hooked it up and nothing. My Manuel actually gives step by step instructions on vhs to DVD and DVD back to vhs. I appreciate your time.

What is the connection between recorder and TV? Try alternate TV input (eg, red/white/yellow).

Edit: Actually - even if you don't see anything on the TV, does VHS gets recorded onto DVD?

  Tried red,white,yellow original hook up. Nothing. Now have an HDMI cable still nothing. I can watch DVDs and vhs . Just not record.
