Hey guys. Building a computer for a friend. It has no GPU as she doesnt require one. but the mobo has a dvi/dhmi port. I put the whole thing together, case lights swithced on, fans going, no posts, no display. so i started disconnecting parts, no posts. long story short I have now got my motherboard breadboarded with only the PSU, CPU and cpufan connected. not a single beep. before you ask the ATX 12v cpu connector and ATX power connector are connected. i also double checked the CPU and it seems i havent bent anything.

here are the relevant parts.
PSU: Antec VSK4-500 USB3.0 Mid Tower Case with 500Watt PSU
Ram: Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB Kit (4Gx2) DDR4 2133 Desktop RAM
Motherboard: ASRock H110M-HDV R3.0 Intel H110 S1151/2xDDR4/1xPCIEx16/HDMI/DVI/D-SUB/Micro ATX Motherboard
CPU: Intel BX80677I57400 Core i5-7400 3.0GHz 6MB LGA1151 Kaby Lake Boxed CPU

im kinda at a loss, faulty mobo perhaps?

Solution
You should have gone with a 200 series (B250) motherboard.

H110 chipset needs a BIOS update before it will work with a 7th-gen Intel CPU. Most 100 series motherboards will require 6th-gen CPU to administer the update.

So you will either need to swap the CPU or the motherboard. Or take it to a local shop to see if they can update it for you.

Yes, any 200 series Intel motherboard should be compatible with 7th-gen Intel CPUs. You can always check the motherboard manufacturer's website to verify. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B250M-PRO-VH/Specification
