No POST lound fan on CPU change HP/Compaq Elite 8100 SFF correction i3-550 not 2120

for hp/compaq elite 8100 sff i swapped out an i3 550 @3.2 GHZ for a i5 650 (which is a specified upgrade) using same original & fairly impressive heat sink and have had no post, no screen and loud fan after 45 secs. No beeps either. I tried with NO ram just to check m/bd and had correct 5 beeps -puzzled. m/ bd is mS 7757 Ver 1.0. Thanks Regards Tony

Does the BIOS thats on it now support the new CPU?? If it doesnt thats one reason why it wont post

The i3-2120 is an LGA1155 CPU while the i5-650 is an LGA1156 CPU. You may have ruined both the CPU and motherboard.

Almost matches same number as OP. (m/ bd is mS 7757 Ver 1.0)

The i3-2120 is an LGA1155 CPU while the i5-650 is an LGA1156 CPU. You may have ruined both the CPU and motherboard.

hi amended my post because original cpu is an i3 550 rather than as I incorrectly stated an i 3 2120. thanks for advice!

It appears the processor you removed was not supported and the processor you installed is a supported CPU. Did the system work with the i3 550? When and by whom was the i3 550 installed?

hi my original post INCORRECTLY stated that an i3 2120 was the original installed cpu -it was nt it was an i3 -550 which worked fine. I believe i3 550 cpu was the original specification as have the HP Elite 8100's from IT recycler. I then installed the i5 650
AND
