I have an older system that's been working great for years. I leave the system on 24/7 unless we are gone for more than a day. Last week, the system was off when I tried to use it and found that it would not start up. I believe it's a bad motherboard, but was looking for a second opinion since that would basically mean building a new computer due to the age of the components.
System specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600
ASUS M2NPV-VM
Corsair XMS2 memory
Antec 350W Smart Power PSU
2 HDD (IDE)
1 floppy (yeah, I know )
1 DVD+/-RW
Trouble shooting steps:
I have a second near identical system running next to this one as a server. First things first, I tried swapping components:
I believe the only thing I have left is to assume a bad MOBO at this point. If there's something else worth trying, I'd love to have a suggestion. Since I'm running Win7, I'm not sure if swapping the MOBO would cause it to freak out since there are a number of components onboard that would be changed at the same time. The only way to avoid that would be to find a new ASUS M2NPV-VM which haven't been sold in ages!

I have a second near identical system running next to this one as a server. First things first, I tried swapping components:
memory...no change (memory should be fine)
cpu from working system...no change
cpu to working system...that system works (CPU is fine)
PSU from working system...no change
PSU to working system...seems to work (PSU is fine)
Brand new PSU...no change (PSU is brand new, should be fine)
heat sync fan is running fine on both systems and too difficult to swap so did not test
removed all components (HDD, DVD, floppy, USB, etc)...no change
removed battery and cleared CMOS...no change
reseated all connectors...no change
