Hi guys,

I installed my new hardware today. The setup is as follows:

Processor: Intel i7-2600k
Motherboard: GA-Z68P-DS3
RAM: Kingston 16GB 4x4GB Kit 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM XMP
PSU: 650W Corsair TX CMPSU-650TXV2EU 140mm
GFX: 1024MB XFX ATI HD6870 900M DDR5 PCI-E

At first I was having issues even booting the system. I found out this issue was due to my power-button having a lose connection. At my first boot-up, I got the BIOS/POST screen and as it booted into windows, I lost the video signal. I assume this is because I was booting into a windows which does not have the drivers for my new gfx. I turned off the system and turned it on again (so I could boot into safemode). Upon starting the system again, I had no video signal whatsoever. No post, no nothing. I've followed the general guide (cleared CMOS, checked cables, unplugged all but 1 block of ram, changed the different types of ram) but to no avail. Could anyone shed some light on what might've happened and/or possible solutions?

The motherboard may be faulty and will be needing an RMA replacement.

This happened to me when I was updating my BIOS version - the update failed and my BIOS chip was then corrupted so my computer would not boot. Same thing as you, computer turns on, but no beep, no video, etc.

You can try getting just the BIOS chip off eBay, it's roughly $10-20 CDN (shipping included), you have to tell the seller what model mobo you have and what BIOS version you want.

However, you said you just bought everything new so chances are that you were unlucky and it's just a defective motherboard. RMA'ing a mobo is a pain because they want you to pay to ship it to them, but if you bought it new, you can probably just take it to where you bought it from and exchange it there.

How's it possible that it booted fine the first time, if the motherboard is defective? Luckily my hardware pusher is usually very forthcoming when it comes to RMAs... I'm sure it won't be a problem, if it's the case...

I noticed the ram I have runs 1.65V where the motherboard supports up to 4x1.5V ram (up to 32 GB), could the voltage be the issue (even if it booted fine first?)? Another thing is the motherboard has built-in graphics, is it possible that this is "overtaking" so the output is given via the hdmi-port on the motherboard - and how do I fix it, if that's the case?

So.. I have no clue what happened. I decided to screw everything back into place and run it down to my hardware pusher tomorrow... after screwing everything back on, I turned on the PC... I had a blue flash (some sort of short circuit, don't know from what) on the case, the PC shut off, turned back on and everything seems dandy..

I consider myself somewhat tech-savvy, but sometimes I'm just a big question mark with these things. Either way, thanks for the suggestion :)

Either way, it's working now. It appears the RAM are working just fine at 1600MHz@1.65V, unfortunately they did not have the Corsair Vengeance blu I wanted (supplier was in back-order) so I settled with the Kingstons.
