Upgraded my own PC for the first time last week and everything has been working fine.

The only components that remain of the old PC is the chassis and PSU which is an old generic 600W.

System has had trouble booting up after the first 2 days. Pre-boot the only LED on is the power so all good. After attempting to boot everything powers up except the CPU fan. I also get no display which I assume is the MOBO preventing a boot to save the CPU. This usually resoles it's self after unplugging the power cable and grabbing a cup of tea but today it did not.

On the mobo the XLED1 is solid green without the XMP being enabled.

Clearing the RTC RAM enabled a boot yesterday but the problem is back. I have tried plugging the fan into the CPU_OPT header but it didn't make a difference.

The only configuration between components I did was the 5-way optimization that is featured in the software. This made it more stable but I think has been wiped when I cleared the ram jumpers. Which makes me feel the MOBO might be stopping the CPU due to a bad overclock or something.

I've already been through all those 30 steps on the system forum about boot failure. (Silly me had both the Molex and the 4pin connectors connected on my chassis fans)

Any help would be much appreciated!

Peace!

Solution
Still CPU fan not spinning?
If yes, Then I suggest testing with a different power supply. If not possible, a local PC repair shop might help in testing the components.
Or RMA both board, CPU and buy a new power supply.
"The only components that remain of the old PC is the chassis and PSU which is an old generic 600W."
I suggest borrowing a power supply and testing, as:
"After attempting to boot everything powers up except the CPU fan"
"This usually resoles it's self after unplugging the power cable"
point to a power issue.
If PSU ok, then I suggest RMA-ing the motherboard, as "Silly me had both the Molex and the 4pin connectors connected on my chassis fans" might have damaged the board.

I was hoping this wasn't going to be an issue as a spar PSU may be hard to come by. The only other PC is an old desktop, not sure what the wattage is but do you think that would be a suitable replacement for testing.

I have bread boarded the system when building as I thought I had a PSU issue and everything worked fine (could this be evidence that it's now a MOBO issue). Cheers for the reply!

Just tried a CMOS clear removing the battery and switching the jumpers. Afterwards I tried booting with 1 stick of ram, the graphics card removed and the VGA connect to the onboard but no luck :/
