I updated the BIOS on a new MSI H97m-G43 mobo using the recommended procedure (`download latest BIOS file' `place on USB disk' `use M-Flash' -- page 3-7 of manual). The mobo no longer powers on (the best I get is some spinning of the CPU and case fans). I jumped the CMOS to reset, but still no luck. I've removed the gpu, RAM, and drives, too. RMA time? If so, should I contact amazon or MSI first? Thanks!

it sounds like a call to MSI may be in order.

If you like - unplug - remove the battery if you have one. Then press and hold the reset for 5 second. Replace the battery. Press and hold reset for 5 seconds. Draw a pentagram on the floor - light red candles at the corners and involke the power of evil to bring the board back to life.

Try this (with or without the powers of evil) and see if it helps.

I think you will need to call MSI.

Good luck.

Yeah, I always say that when it comes to BIOS updates, if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it, because this can, and does happen. If there was an issue while flashing the new BIOS file, it can leave you with no workable BIOS, which in a nutshell means your board is dead. It will require a new BIOS chip, if your chip is removable, or the board sent back to MSI if it does not come back to life on its own by resetting, or removing the battery.
Good luck.

I stuck an older BIOS revision on a USB drive, plugged it in, waited for ~15 minutes, and now the motherboard is powering on. Unfortunately I don't get any video out from either the onboard graphics or from the GPU (if I plug it back in). I'm using the DVI port because I don't have a VGA cable; do you think trying VGA out would help?
