I have an Acer Aspire 8730. About 2 years ago, it started giving me one long beep, followed by 2 short beeps, which I've read points to the video card. Putting it into the shop was a no go, they said they couldn't do anything.
I'd read about the "oven method" of heating up the card, so the solder could flow, and hopefully seal any micro fractures there might be.
LOL, it's been about 2 years, but just now got around to trying this out, seeing as how the laptop is basically useless now anyway.
I got the card out, followed what looks like pretty standard instructions for baking it, let it cool, reapplied the thermal paste, and reinstalled.
However, now I appear to be getting no power at all to the system. I've tried pulling the battery and just using the power adapter, but no go. I then left the battery out, disconnected power, and held the power button for 60 seconds. Not sure what that does, but from reading in various forums, but it seems to be a common solution. But it didn't work.
So now I have a brick again...any thoughts? Did I somehow fry something? Everything went as expected when I pulled everything apart, it was very easy.
