My system is 1,5 years old by now and has been working flawlessly until today.

When i tried to turn it on nothing happened, nothing at all. I checked that the power was on and tested other electrical appliances that worked fine in the wall plug. I switched around the reset and power button and back again while checking that all the wires inside were seated correctly. No dice. But when i took out the power cable from the PSU and plugged it back in the fans spun for a brief moment, without me pressing any buttons. This didn't repeat itself afterwards though.

Anyone else experienced this problem?

It sounds like your PSU has fried. I just bought the same one and Installed it yesterday which is strange XD It's not a very expensive PSU so I would just get a new one. :)
