Hello all,
I have a factory standard Dell Inspiron 660s(it will be 5 this year) , with one 4gb ddrm3.
A couple of days ago I got the no ram detected 2 beeps. I tried switching to the different slots; it didnt work. Cleaned the ram stick and switched back and forth again; still two beeps. Tried the blow dryer method; it worked for 15 secs before it shut down with 2 beeps again. Is there anything else I can do? Any insite to the cause... Maybe a motherboard issue? Should I try the blow dryer again? Thank you.

Cracked solder joints are common in this age of RoHS lead-free solder. What happened is thermal cycling over 5 years eventually cracked a joint, and the heat from the hairdryer expands things until it contacts again.

If it was the RAM stick you were heating, then a reflow in the oven could temporarily restore functionality but some lead-free solders require pretty extreme temperatures and well, RAM is cheap.

Consider it an opportunity to upgrade your RAM to either the maximum Dell supported 8GB or even the B75 chipset's maximum 32GB.
