No SATA Controller in Device Manager

I installed a new mobo last week, and I didn't look before I installed W7x64, but MSI has SATA set to IDE by default. I just noticed it this morning. I wanted to change to AHCI, but there is no AMD SATA Controller in Device Manager, and if I switch to AHCI in BIOS, Windows fails to start. I tried Start-up repair, but no go, it said it could not automatically fix the problem. Am I correct in assuming that if I want to switch to AHCI that I will have to change it to AHCI in BIOS, then reinstall Windows? That seems absurd to me, really don't want to do that, but if it's the only way...

Yeah, I tried this route, didn't work. It didn't install the AHCI driver or SATA host controller, and Windows would still not boot after setting SATA to AHCI in BIOS. 🙁

What does the motherboard's driver-CD install?

There is a STICKY guide here in this STORAGE forum about Switching Controllers, but the best way remains "do it in the best sequence for the best results".

If it's any consolation, it's probably easier to do it now, than wait for months after having odd problems accumulate.
