No signal but pc turns on

So i just bought a gtx 970 and i installed it but when i try and boot my pc it says 'no signal'? the PCI-E is plugged in correctly (6x2), however when i put my old graphic card in (GTX 745) it turned on, any solutions?

would have thought a gtx970 needs more than a 6+2 connector

mine takes a 6+2 and a 6 connector
