No Signal from Graphics card?

Hi,

So I've got a bit of a weird problem.
My mate has given me his computer to try and have a look at, I've tried turning it on and all the fans spin up as they should, but the monitor says no signal. So I've taken the GPU out of his computer and put it into my own. works perfectly.
I then tried the output on the motherboard, which works as long as the graphics card isn't in his computer. I've resat the CPU a few times and nothing wants to work.

Anyone got any ideas?

Just for future reference - the problem was that the power supply wasn't supplying enough power to the graphics card. It was a 400W gold PSU and an i5 4690K, 8GB RAM, a 7970 and enough fans to hover.
I placed my own GTX 970 in there which only requires 2 6-pin connectors and it worked perfectly.

What MoBo? What CPU? What GPU? What PSU?
Perhaps the PSU does not deliver enough power (perhaps just only on the PCIe-rail), perhaps because of the PSU ageing. But i need more info to say reliably.

You found it yourself faster than i could type, , so ignore me... :)
