Hi all, I am trying to replace my video card with a new ASUS R9 290X DC2 4GD5, and I am not getting any signal on the monitor.

Build Details:
Motherboard: MSI P67S-C43 (B3) ATX LGA 1155
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3 GHz Quad-Core
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing Cooler
Memory: Mushkin Silverline 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1333 + Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600 (Bought the 1600 pair at the same time as the new card, installed and works fine with the rest of the old components, incl. old video card)
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200 rpm HDD
Optical Drive: Sony AD-7280S-0B DVD/CD writer
Power Supply: Corsair 650W ATX12V / EPS 12V power supply
Old Graphics card: XFX Radeon 6870 2GB video card with aftermarket GELID GC-VGA02-01 ! ball, 1 sleeve VGA cooler
New Graphics card: ASUS R9 290X DC2 4GD5 video card

The issue:
The old build is working fine before I switch in the new card, and works again once I switch the old card back in. When the new card is plugged in (I am using the power cables from the Corsair PSU, one 6+2 pin and one 6 pin plug, the old card used two 6-pin plugs + a small system fan for the GELID cooler), the power LEDs on the ASUS card light up green, but connecting my DVI cable to either of the ports results in my monitor to be unable to detect a signal when the desktop is powered on. Again, the exact same components with the old video card work perfectly fine. What is the reason for no signal from the monitor?

UPDATE: My motherboard BIOS was out-of-date. Installing the MSI Utility enabled me to update my BIOS as well as other related drivers. The update resolved the issue.

Solution

I did try using separate cables - same result. Further investigation revealed that my motherboard BIOS has not been updated in a VERY long time (2011). Attempting to update now, but the MSI Live Update utility has been on the 'BIOS is updating' screen for nearly an hour now - something is off. Will update as soon as some progress is made.
UPDATE: Resolved the BIOS update issue, there was a permission request window lurking behind the image notifying the BIOS update and warning. Furthermore, the BIOS update has solved the issue. Everything is working properly. Also, I ended up not needing two separate cables - each cable had 2 6+2 pin heads, and I...

I replaced it with a Corsair RM1000, same issue. all plugs are properly seated.
UPDATE: After the BIOS update, I went back and tested the setup with my older power supply. Everything is working just fine even with the lower, 650W, supply.

Solution

Good to know! I was trying to minimize the amount of cabling I have in my case, but if I can get better performance, then I'll take it! Thanks.
