Using HP Envy desktop, built-in graphics. Windows 10.
Over the last few weeks I have had trouble getting anything to appear on my Windows 10 HP display (HP w2207h). Screen is just black, although the power light is on. I have tried updating/reinstalling the display adapter with no luck. At first, unplugging the HDMI cable and putting it back worked, but it no longer does. Same with the power cable. I know the system is booting because when I do get it on it shows the desktop, which means it obviously went past the Windows/HP boot screen images. I have also tried using a regular VGA cable instead of the HDMI, which worked a couple times. I can't get it on at all now. Sometimes it comes on after a very long period of time, inexplicably, as if it was asleep. The activity light on the PC blinks occasionally, as one would expect, for example if I CTRL-ALT-DEL I can see brief activity. It's there, it's just not reaching the monitor.
EDIT: OK now it just popped on. First time in a week it actually came on, showing the desktop, about 15 minutes after booting. Other days it never comes on. Obviously I can't work like this.
EDIT 2: I performed the following steps recommended by HP:
1. Turn on the computer and repeatedly press F10 for BIOS
2. In the BIOS Setup utility, press the right arrow key and select the Power tab.
3. Press the down arrow key to select Hardware power Management.
4. Press the right arrow key to disable SATA Power Management. F10 to accept.
5. Back to first tab to save and exit.
Now shows the welcome screen on boot, although it still took a bit longer than expected.
How can I tell if I need a new display or if there's something wrong on the PC side? I would appreciate any other observations and insight. Thank you.
Thanks.
