I have a ASUS computer and trying to upgrade the graphics card to a GTX 1080, i got a brand new CX750 psu, hooked it all up, the mother board fan would power for few seconds then turn off and no signal to monitor, tried MB VGA and GPU DVI neither give signal not sure whats wrong, i disabled integrated graphic before installing new step up, please help

Solution

Hold on the CX750 come with a 4+4 Pin EPS12v cable...you must use this one and just use the 4 pins leaving the other 4 pin hanging.

I agree with both posts asking if you used needed dual 6 or 8 pin power(depends on the card) for new GPU.
Did you check your 24 and 8 pin board power connections also? make sure in good and not bent pins. All of your board mounting screw are in and tight also, could be a grounding issue if not any of the above.

Can you tell me how your RAM is broken down in the system? Is that 3 sticks of RAM? Try removing one stick of RAM and leave 2 in that were of the same make. In fact just boot with one stick of Ram first..

When I take out psu and graphics card in put back default psu the computer works fine so it’s not the ram, I made sure all pins are in right, I just don’t get why my motherboard fan turns on for like a sec then turns off and no signal to monitor but pier button light stays on

Okay. looks like a GPU/PSU causing an issue. Have you tried powering the system with just the new power supply and no 1080 installed. Also have you tried placing the GPU in a different PCIe slot?

Just notice it only has one PICe slot...

Yes I tried that same issue as with it installed fan for sec no signal and I have 2x 4g ram sticks, may sound dumb but I’m knew to computer terms what does rebooting mean, does it mean just turning it back on again or something else?

Good point almost worth taking the battery out above the PCI-e slot for a few minutes and the putting it back and rebooting...that just means switching it on again.

I had to buy an extra cord to connect to the 4 pin on motherboard, but I tried it with old psu and worked so it’s not the 4 pin connector, but how is my new psu not working it’s brand new is that possible?

Hopefully there is nothing wrong with the power supply or the GTX 1080..I just think the connects are the issue.

Just to be clear, when you start the system the fans come on and the go of? Does the CPU fan stay on, are there any lights on the motherboard lighting up?

I’ll have to check to find the 4+4 pin that comes with it I’m not currently home right now but will update when I do in about 6 hrs from now, but I bought a 6 pin to 1x4 to 2x2 pin connector that seems to work with old psu so I don’t see why it wouldn’t with new one
