No Signal with GPU, Works with integrated graphics

Hello!

I decided to try to build a computer for the first time, and it has been exciting - although I'm getting pretty nervous right now.

Everything seems to be working okay, and I can get to my BIOS... until I stick the gpu in the pcie slot. Once that happens, the monitor displays no signal - regardless of what dvi ports I use (the one from the mobo or the one from the gpu).

My specs:

ASrock z87 extreme 4
intel i5 4570
msi r7 260x
corsair hx650
2x4 gskill ram

If anyone has suggestions I appreciate it!

Go into BIOS/UEFI and load defualts and save settings. Then try the video card again. If that does not work check for BIOS/UEFI updates and update if avialble. If that does not work you will need to test the video card and motherboard

Do you have another PCIe video cad you can put into the computer to verify it is not a motherboard problem? Use another PCIe video cars to test the MB if you see a display when using the other card your MB is fine and your vidoe card is possabley defective.

Thanks for helpoing out! I loaded the default settings and alas the video card still didn't work. Newegg offered to refund the gpu for me. If it was a mobo problem, wouldn't the gpu work in one of the pcie3 slots?

Did you check for BIOS/UEFI updates? you will need to do this wihth the IGPU.

Not necessary but it does increase the odds significantly that the card is the culprit to your problem. The MB and CPU have not been ruled out as the source of the problem. The odds of it being the CPU are very low. Your video card communicates directly with the PCIe 3.0 controller which is on the CPU. The motherboard facilitates that communication. If there is a problem with the CPU socket on the MB it could cause none of the PCIe 3.0 lanes to work. It is also possible that the PCIe 3.0 controller on the CPU failed. The only way to verify that the MB and CPU are operating correctly is to put a different video card in the computer and see if that video card works. You could also take the video card that you have that is not working and try it on another computer. If it works in the other computer then the problem lise in the CPU or MB (most likely the MB) . If you just start replacing hardware do it in the following order. 1: video card, 2: Motherboard, 3: CPU.

it turns out i had to change the display output in the bios from pcie to integrated, and then back to pcie

That is odd typically modern MB's do that automatically and do not require the user to change the settings. Sense you had to go back and forth with it, it must have been hung up some how. Wwell at least you got it working.
