A few weeks ago I restarted my PC and when it came back to life the screen displayed "No signal" and after a few hours of research online I gave up on it. I took it apart twice and made sure everything was attached as it should be and that nothing was interfering with any of the necessary pathways.
Just last night I tried using a DVI to HDMI connector instead of my usual HDMI connector, a suggestion I found on one of these message boards and of course it didn't change anything. I took out my video card, something new I read, and lo and behold my screen flickered to life, showing I was running safe mode.
I have NO IDEA what has gone wrong with my video card. When it is plugged in its fan works normally. Everything else works just fine, all LED's light up, all fans are spinning at their normal speeds, CD tray, Keyboard and Mouse lights, everything looks and sounds normal.
Please give me some sagely advice as to how I can repair my machine. I tried going into BIOS to disable the onboard graphics but couldn't find an option for it.
Order of actions I took:
1. Took apart PC, cleaned and put back together
2. Triple checked everything was attached properly
3. Tried new DVI cable
4. Took out video card
5. Booted into safe mode
6. Ran BIOS / Looked for onboard graphics
7. Tore my hair out, cried in fetal position
Windows 7
Intel Core i5
EVGA 600 B
Gigabyte Ultra Durable GA-Z87X-UD5H
EVGA GeForce GTX 660
