No solution so far??? PS3 not displaying on monitor.

This may be a very common question in the forums, but no thread seems to have an answer.
None of these threads have the answer: 1 2 3 4 5 +many more
I bought a used LG E2211T-BN 1080p monitor for my gaming pc recently. I bought a cheap dvi male to hdmi female adapter from ebay, as the monitor didn't have an hdmi input. It arrived last morning, and I connected the gaming pc to the monitor using the adapter and a high quality hdmi cable(purchased separately). It worked. However, when I connected my PS3 to my monitor, it just said "check signal cable". Holding down the power button for 5 seconds to reset the ps3 settings didn't work either. The ps3 works (using it on my tv currently), the hdmi cables (tried 2) work, the (usually) works when connected to my pc. According to the website, the monitor is hdcp.
I tried everything I could find online, but nothing is working. Does anyone have a solution?
Any help is appreciated.

I had a similar issue when I tried to hook my PS3 up to my monitor. I tried to use the various HDMI cables I had around but none of them worked. I ended up buying the official HDMI cable Sony sells for the PS3 and that was the only thing that worked. Not sure why that cable was different, but i's the only one that got a picture on the screen.

I've been using the sony hdmi cable that came with the ps3.

check to see if the HDMI is a "High Speed" cable - if it's not it won't work

also check the type of DVI adapter you bought, it could be the wrong version to make the PS3 work (DVI-I instead of DVI-D for example)

Have you gone into the video settings on the console while it's plugged into a TV and properly set it to 1080p over HDMI?

If so and you're using the official Sony HDMI cable then I think it's probably related to the DVI converter. It could be that something is being lost during the conversion or like dingo said, you might be converting it to analog (DVI-I) instead of digital (DVI-D).

My PS3 works over a Radio Shack cable, Zune HDMI cable, and a few no names so I don't think branding is the problem. I'm inclined to agree that the cable itself doesn't support the right variety of HDMI or that the DVI adapter is the wrong kind too.

Thanks for the replies! Sorry for the late reply. I tried another hdmi cable that said "hi speed hdmi cable with ethernet", but it didn't work either. The dvi-hdmi adapter has the pins of a dual link DVI-D.

the solution is to connect to the monitor while the PS3 is turning on, and see if the HDCP is in fact taking place, it's clear the TV is hanging on some request and not answering to complete the handshake - it could be firmware, try updating the firmware on the monitor

I'm pretty sure that nothing happened at all when the monitor was on and I switched on the ps3 (I'll check that again tomorrow). So how would I update the firmware on the monitor? I don't see any data connection from the pc to the monitor.

in my last comment, I forgot to write "test with terminal software" - you can only do that while in the service menu on most displays

On my laptop (with the monitor connected via a "high speed" hdmi cable and dvi-hdmi adapter), I downloaded and unzipped the files. There is a "security catalog" type file, a "ICC Profile" type file, and a "setup information" type file. I right clicked and "install profile" the ICC profile file (but didn't have any response), and right clicked and installed the system information file-which said "the operation completed successfully". Disconnecting my monitor from my laptop and reconnecting to my ps3, the monitor still kept showing "check signal cable". I repeated the above a few times, but nothing changed. On laptop, I went to screen resolution and to the monitor properties, where I selected "update driver" and both "automatically search for drivers" and manually selected the driver file. It just said that "the best driver software is already installed, windows has determined your drivers are up to date". Reconnected to ps3 and still nothing happened . Under the monitor properties, the monitor name was "E2211 (Digital)". To me that makes it look like the monitor is in digital, not analog mode.

Oh, ok. I can live without ps3 connected to my monitor. I'll pass this on to someone if they need a new pc.
