no soud in speaker

Okay, so unfortunately my speakers decide to work just through a earphone on my laptop. when I play a sound on iTunes on the right hand side the volume icon shows my speakers are working but there really not because I can't hear I? I have a Asus laptop with windows 8.. help would be much appreciated since I have been trying to figure this out for a while now thanks!

If you have headphones plugged in, the speakers won't work.
