Hello,
There are no sounds/audio available in my computer. Yesterday I installed latest VIA HD Audio drivers (mine audio device is VIA VT1705). It installed successfully, then today when I booted my PC there were no sound. No VIA HD Audio device in Device Manager.
Tried re-installing audio drivers many times from original disc, disabling/enabling On-board Audio in BiOS but nothing helped.
Under "Sound, game, video controllers" lies five High Definition Audio Devices, as well speaker icon on taskbar is with a red X on it and shows "No speakers or headphones plugged in"
In addition DxDiag tells that no sound card was found..

Never had any problems with sound before, until now when tried to install new drivers.

Spent hours looking for solutions on internet but unsuccessfully.... So I ask your help.

Solution
Finally it fixed, but in strange way. Just wanted to try to install ALL drivers from motherboard manufacturer's disc, so first uninstalled audio driver (which was installed from the same disc several times) and after that I noticed that there are no red X on sound icon :O and VIA High Definition Audio appeared in Device Manager.... Kinda strange...

I have been having issues with my sound driver for about 2 or 3 weeks now (3di recon), after NEVER having a single issue for over a year, with no hardware changes. It started when a 'windows update' came out a couple weeks ago, and I lost my sound.
I rolled back driver to default windows driver, fixed.
Now, randomly, my sound will go out, usually when I'm switching between speakers and digital audio, but not always. I can never recreate the problem when I want to. Anyways when this happens, I uninstall the driver in question completely, restart and windows automatically installs the default driver again and good to go.
My god this routine is getting really f****ing annoying though. I have to do this almost every day at some point.
I'm pretty sure the problem lies with Microsoft and their sh***y updates. Just have to wait for the next one to see if that fixes it, if not, I will be reinstalling windows to troubleshoot further.

There are five High Definition Audio Devices listed in Device Manager under Sound tab. If I uninstall them, windows automatically install them after every reboot and my on-board sound card is not detected even if I have drivers installed from original CD.

But it does not work

This is what Device Manager shows:

Re-installing VIA High Definition Audio drivers doesn't change anything. If I uninstall those default audio device drivers they keep installing all the time after boot up

Where did you get the new drivers from? Sometimes the PC maker modifies the drivers they get from the hardware makers (especially with graphics cards). So if you got from the sound card vendor I would look at the PC maker or their driver page and download their latest drivers.

At first tried to install latest audio driver from sound card company, after that everything messed up. Then tried installing audio drivers from my original motherboard drivers CD but still no luck, same problem persists.

Off topic: something similar happened some time ago when I tried to update video card drivers, it messed up too (disappeared from Device Manager) fixed only with help of nVidia support. It sems that updating drivers is some kind of curse for me....
