No sound for Remote desktop applications

I use VLC Direct and and Google Chrome Remote Desktop extension both give me good picture but neither will give me sound. My desktop is a windows 7 machine that is hooked up to a 42" Panasonic Viera plasma tv through HDMI port from an Nvidia 7000 series graphics card. I have no external speakers hooked up to the MB's on board sound card. Do these applications depend on using the MB's sound card for casting the sound to your remote device, could that be the source of the problem or something else?

Yeah that wasn't revelation to me!

I was asking the question to find someone that may have dealt with this issue in the past or has intimate knowledge of how Google Chrome Remote Desktop application works that could definitively answer the question before I go out and spend money on speakers.
