We're going to need more information.

Pleas list your specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

since you mentioned "new", if the build is an upgrade to a previous machine, please parse two sets of specs. One which is prior setup and one which is current setup. If any upgrade, did you reinstall the OS? Can you check and see what BIOS version you're currently on for your motherboard?

Also include the audio equipment used.

I have the same motherboard. Have you selected the Sound option in the Control Panel and made sure that the output port you want is Enabled and selected as the Default Device? Also, if you are planning on using the spdif optical output, make sure you update the Realtek ALC4080 chip using the firmware update ASUS released on May 26th.

it is enabled, and set as default, and I've also updated the firmware from that link. still no sound.
