No Sound From Speaker When No Earphone Is Connected

there's no sound coming from my speaker unless when i use an earphone connected directly to the speaker. how is this happening and what can i do to solve this issue? it's almost seems like it's a software issue because an earphone still works. i've tried updating the sound card driver but that doesn't work either.

You might have to make your speakers the default device
Go to the Control Panel, click on Sound, go to the Playback tab, right click Speakers, and set it as default

i've tried that before and it didn't work. do you know how i would need to go about reinstalling the driver? how would i proceed if i were to uninstall it?

that is what it says in Device Manager

Tried updating both? You could try also disabling one of them and see what happens

so apparently it was due to the VGA cable being plugged into the bass speaker too tightly. to be honest i dont see how this would make it inaudible without earphone but audible with.
