Hello,

I have a friend who recently lost sound on his Desktop device with Windows 10. I tried to go through basic, amateur troubleshooting with him such as trying different stereo jacks on the device, testing another device (did not work), stopping and restarting Windows Audio Services (and making sure they were set to automatic), uninstalling, reinstalling, and updating generic driver, installing most recent version of manufacturer driver, installing second most recent version of manufacturer driver, and nothing seems to have worked. Windows picks up that a stereo device is connected - if he plugs in his headphones, for example, and item appears in his Sound Settings > Playback for Headphones. But when he launches YouTube or something similar there is no audio and, in the Sound Mixer, it shows his device but no applications in the application list. If he goes to properties for his 'Headphones' device and tries to play a Test Tone it alerts him that Windows failed to play the test tone.

We thought that the issue might be the sound card so he bought a $6.00 USB to Stereo adapter but the same exact thing is happening with the adapter.

We are at a loss of what to do - any advice or assistance would be really, really appreciated!!
