No sound on dvd. When audio is pressed on dvd remote a white circle with a diagonal line through it shows on screen. How do I

This "Audio" button on the remote is meant to cycle to different audio tracks on the movie you watch, eg English - French - Spanish. That crossed white circle just means there are no alternative audio channels.

Your DVD player should have some settings menu, where you can set what output is being used for audio - optical, HDMI, analog etc. Without exact make and model of your DVD, and how it is connected to your TV / receiver, no one can help.
