no sound on new custom built pc

Im using windows 7 on a new custom pc, going through the forums here gave few hints but none worked. I ausing a vga cable, ive got no hdmi socket on my moniter. Do I need some speakers been bugging me for a day now

Yes, you need some speakers for sound. Does the monitor have built-in speakers?
