I recently loaded 2000 on my PC and the only problem I have encountered is
the CD rom. The machine will read data but will not play an audio cd. I went
through the troubleshooting process and when I finally attached the
headphones to the machine you can hear the music, not as loud, but it is
clearly there. Has anyone got any idea what is wrong?

If the analog cable from the CD to the sound card is unplugged or
missing this could cause it. Also you could check Device Manager, CD
Drives, R-click drive, Properties, Properties tab and put a check in the
"Enable digital CD audio........" box.

Thanks Bob. The check in the "Enable digital.." works a treat.

Sounds like hardware failure, the socket that the headphones plug into
may be stuck. When you plug the headset in it disconnects the normal
speaker system, if that mechanism were to stick it could give the
results you have.
