no usb option in hdd priority of bios ..imposible to boot from usb ??

i wanna boot from ma usb
& i found no usb option in hard disk priority
does it mean that ma mobo (g31) is unable to boot from usb ??

You may have to amend the boot list - typically (on older BIOS') you could set at a high level whether you wanted to boot from "hard drives", "external disks" (or something like that) and "network" etc...... I would suggest, in the BIOS, enabling booting from all 'types' of devices, then trying.

You may also find the USB as a 'sub' item. For example, boot override>"hard drives">USBName .

In an older HP computer, I found that I had to go into the BIOS, with the USB plugged in, then say for primary boot to use the "HDD Group" - and in the HDD Group, I could then select the USB drive.

If the USB drive wasn't plugged in when I was in the BIOS, though, then that option wouldn't show up under the HDD Group.

It was, in my opinion, a pretty bizarre way of doing things.

the usb is not plugged in my computer (my freind took it to prepare it for windows booting )
may be this is the reason

yea if the USB Drive isn't installed it will now show in the options to boot.

I must ask though, 2GB is too small for any windows install. need like a 8GB at least

Yeah, good catch - the Windows 10 USB installer now requires an 8GB USB stick. Used to be that it required 4GB

Funny thing is, when I downloaded and put the installer on my USB stick, it took up only 3.7GB. Still the tool creation software will refuse to do it on anything less than an 8GB stick.

iam trying to install lite version of windows xp (300 mb) or lite windows 7 (1200 mb)

my important question ?
is my mobo (g31) able to boot from usb ?
or (booting from usb ) is an exclusive feature that only found in the new powerful mobos (like z270) ....?

i asked a guy who works in pc maintanence , he told me that mobo g31 has no problem to boot from usb
