"No VGA detected" Asus M5A97 R2.0 and Asus r9 280 DCII TOP OC 3GB GDDR5

I've been building my first pc, and when i try to boot it, it gives me one continous beep and three short beeps, meaning "no VGA detected". I have taken the gpu off and placed it back in the pci-e slot, without success. I don't know what to do with it and need help.

Mobo: Asus M5A97 R2.0
CPU: AMD FX-6300 6-core 3.5 Ghz
GPU: Asus R9 280 DCII TOP OC 3GB GDDR5
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz CL9
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5"

When installed did you attache the PCI-E power cables from the PSU to the card?

I did, both 6 and 8 pin cables, and the gpu fans are working.

Is the card in the top pcie slot, closest to the cpu? And do you have any other card?

My PSU is XFX TS 550W.

The card is in the pcie slot closest to the cpu. I don't have other cards.

If you have access to a multimeter, check the voltages from the black to yellow wires in both the pcie connectors, should read 12v on every yellow. (that's pcie, not the 8-pin eps connector). If that all checks out, you could run the card in the 2nd slot, depending on the board and bios, this may or may not work, not sure on yours.
If one or more of the yellow wires fails 12v, you'll need to RMA the psu.
Basically, what you are looking to do is rule out the various components. You could ask around your friends and see if someone has a card you can use, one they know works. If you find one, and your psu is good, the borrowed card is good, then its probably the slot or the mobo that's bad
